In untreated cells, mitochondria display a typically elongated shape and numerous parallel-oriented cristae. Following treatment, mitochondrial swelling (asterisks), with matrix expansion and cristae dysmorphic features, including numerical reduction, spatial disorganization and/or fragmentation (arrowheads) are observed.
