909,531 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 were identified from the claims database. 11,228 patients were excluded due to age below the study minimum (n = 11,206) or missing gender (n = 22). Of the 898,303 patients included in the analysis, 16,324 had a paid prescription for spironolactone within a 180-day window prior to the hospitalization.
