Growth of rBCG in organs of infected mice. Mice were infected with 2 × 106 CFU of rBCG carrying the 3a/LAP or 4a/LAP construct or vector control BCG. Mice were sacrificed after 13 and 20 days, and the bacterial loads in lung, liver, and spleen homogenates were measured. There was a significant reduction in the growth of rBCG clones expressing LAP.
