It is likely that different neuropathologies in people infected with human immunodeficiency virus may be generated by different mechanisms and require different treatment strategies. Identifying groups of individuals with similar mechanistic biomarkers, effect modifiers, and neuropathologies may identify people whose pathologies are driven by similar mechanisms that require similar treatment strategies.
