Phylogenetic tree of A. thaliana chitinases and quinoa chitinase-related proteins found in seeds under rainfed condition. Twenty-five chitinases have been identified in A. thaliana which are mainly divided into three groups based on their catalytic and binding domains. The 9 chitinase-like proteins differentially abundant under rainfed conditions in the quinoa seeds analyzed, showed sequence similarities to protein domains of A. thaliana ones. In addition, quinoa chitinase-like proteins were closer to the ones that were highly expressed in microarray data from leaves and seedlings of A. thaliana grown under drought conditions from two independent experiments summarized in ²⁹.
