Schematic representation of the skin under H2 treatment and normal conditions during the early stage wound healing. In addition to anti-inflammation (especially for Th1- and Th17-related systemic inflammation), H2 treatment brings multiple other benefits (shown in the figure) including faster epidermis thickening, earlier proliferation (red nuclei) of epidermal stem cells (basal cells and hair follicle cells), early differentiation of basal cells in the wound edge (differentiate towards α-SMA+ cell type), earlier and better ECM deposit, faster blood vessel formation, mitochondrial damage repair, and moist healing process (less blood scab formation)
