Timeline of the SHIME experiment. After the inoculation of human feces in the ascending, transverse, and descending colons, the microbiota needed 23 days for stabilization. Then, 10 mL at 109 (PFU/mL) of the phage ULIP33 was injected in the ascending colon for 7 days (from day 1 to day 7). The experiment was maintained until the disappearance of the phage from the system (corresponding to day 24 for repetition 1 and day 21 for repetition 2 and 3).
