Overview of sampling time points. Plasma was sampled at 60, 30, and 0 min before transfusion (T-2, T-1, and T0, respectively), followed by transfusion of one unit of packed red blood cells (PRBC) over 1 h +/− 5 min. Plasma was then sampled at 60, 90, and 120 min after the start of the PRBC transfusion (T1, T2, and T3, respectively). In addition, one sample was drawn from the PRBC unit.
