Definition and classification of hypertension. BP: blood pressure.

Class Recommendation
Hypertension is diagnosed if BP, measured in an appropriate way, is:
  • 1- ≥ 130/80mmHg according to office measurement, day-time readings of ambulatory BP measurements or the average of home-based BP measurements

  • 2- > 125/75 mmHg according to the average of ambulatory BP measurements in 24 hours.

  • 3- >110/65 mmHg according to night-time readings of ambulatory BP measurements (isolated nocturnal hypertension)

Treatment is recommended to be considered if BP, measured in an appropriate way, is:
  • 4- > 140/90mmHg according to office measurement.

  • 5- ≥ 130/80 mmHg according to the average of ambulatory BP measurements in 24 hours.

  • 6- ≥ 135/85 mmHg according to day-time readings of ambulatory BP measurements

  • 7- >120/70 mmHg according to night-time readings of ambulatory BP measurements (isolated nocturnal hypertension)

  • 8- ≥ 135/85 mmHg according to the average of home-based BP measurements
