Downregulation of IL-13RA2 in fibroblasts aggravates fibrosis via JAK/STAT6. The increased matrix stiffness due to ECM secretion that is caused by JAK/STAT6 activation along with elevated IL-13 in conjunction leads to M2 polarization. M2 macrophages provide prosurvival and profibrotic cytokines, supporting keloidal cell behavior and further pathological fibrosis of keloids.
