Adverse outcomes displayed are not mutually exclusive, see Table 2 for overlap. An admission to the neonatal unit after 37 weeks' gestation was considered “unexpected”. Also, preterm birth was defined as birth before recommended by NICE* guidelines (eg monochorionic monoamniotic 32 weeks' gestation, monochorionic diamniotic 36 weeks' gestation and dichorionic diamniotic 37 weeks' gestation) (NICE: National Institute for Healthcare excellence).
