The impact of pericytes on network stability in response to starvation. (A) 72 h nutrient starvation resulted in the entire collapse of HUVEC networks in monocultures. In contrast, HUVEC/ pericyte networks persisted, although they apparently regressed compared with untreated conditions (mean ± SEM total tube length, 10.7 ± 0.7 vs 13.5 ± 0.6 mm/field of view, respectively).
