Retraction: Mitochondrial Localization and Function of Heme Oxygenase-1 in Cigarette Smoke–induced Cell Death

The authors of an April 2007 article (1) and the Journal were notified that the four lanes of the immunoblot image representing the loading controls in Figure 1D (bottom right panel) were similar to portions of loading controls included in other papers from the same laboratory. Due to the length of time since the original publication and the current unavailability of the original gels, the authors have decided that retraction of the article is the best course of action (not every author was able to be contacted). The authors state that they remain confident the conclusions of the article are valid.
