Exposure to X-rays did not induce cell cycle arrests. Astrocytes were exposed to 8 Gy X-rays or mock-irradiated (0 Gy) and trypsinized and fixed at different time points up to 24 h after irradiation. The percentage of cells in the different cell cycle phases—G1- (A), S- (B), G2-phase (C)— was determined by flow cytometry of DAPI stained cells. The distribution of cells in S- and G2-phase is comparable for both conditions. The samples were compared by unpaired t-test with a sample size of n = 6. Data are shown as mean ± SD. Significant differences in comparison to the 0 Gy control at the same time point are indicated by asterisks (*p < 0.05).
