Fig. 1 — The rate of antibiotic exposure at the beginning of life of life varies between 1.2 and 14%^{11,32,47–49}. The incidence of culture-proven early-onset sepsis (EOS) varies between 0.13 and 1.45/1000 term and late-preterm neonates^{11,32,53–57}. Therefore, between 50 to more than 100 term and late-preterm neonates are started on antibiotics for each case of culture-proven EOS.
