Atypical lymphoid cells are small/medium-sizes, have loose chromatin, cytoplasm with pronounced basophilia, and some forms have microvacuolation, making up about 10% of the nucleated elements in the bone marrow specimen. (D) – Bone marrow biopsy, Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE), optical microscopy, 10 x magnification. Usually, lymphomatous infiltration of the bone marrow in AITL is subtle and difficult to characterize in HE, requiring immunohistochemical staining for TFH-associated antigens for better revelation of neoplastic cells.
