Serum corticosterone (CORT) levels from animals in the different social dominance groups measured at 12 weeks. Animals were sacrificed 15 min following the homecage change and recording session to identify Dominant, Intermediate and Submissive mice. Animals in the Submissive group showed significantly lower levels of CORT compared to other two groups (**P<0.005 versus both groups) following this session. Dashed line represents reference value (92.8 ng/ml) for basal CORT levels averaged across a separate cage of group-housed mice (4/cage) which did not receive cage change before being sacrificed.
