Illustration of Bayes’ theorem applied to medical research where data, in the form of symptoms, is used to determine the likelihood of those symptoms if the patient has a particular disease. Bayes’ rule combines this probability with prior knowledge to determine the posterior probability that the patient has the disease, given the observed symptoms.
