Study name	Comparison of occlusal settling, patient compliance and retention ability between Hawley’s and Van Der Linden retainers: a randomized controlled trial
Methods	Study design: single‐centre, double‐blinded (participant and outcomes assessor), 2‐armed, parallel, randomised, active control trial Setting: conducted in a university settling Country: India Duration of the follow‐up: at time of retainer delivery (T0), 3 months of retention (T1) and 6 months of retention (T2) Inclusion criteria Male or female from 18‐40 years Gave consent for the proposed study Had undergone fixed orthodontic treatment Had completed orthodontic treatment and were in retention phase of treatment Systemically healthy Exclusion criteria Patients with craniofacial or dentofacial syndromes Patients with diabetes Patients having habit of smoking Patients who are suffering from periodontal disorder Non‐compliant patients
Participants	The study aims to enrol and randomise 80 participants.
Interventions	Group A (experimental): Van der Linden retainer Group B (active control): Hawley retainer
Outcomes	Primary outcome Occlusal settling Secondary outcomes Stability ‐ LII (LII), intercanine width (ICW) and intermolar width (IMW) Patient compliance
