Both maternal and fetal heart rates were derived from the umbilical venous flow by means of spectral analysis of pulse-wave ultrasound images. To test whether the pulsatilities originate from the same heart or not, i.e., whether the fetal heart rate is a harmonic of the maternal heart rate, a correlation plot was fitted with a linear function. No correlation was found as the 95% confidence interval of the fit slope contained zero.
