Engineered cartilage tissue construct from the study of Cigan et al. [21], after 56 days in culture. The holes served as nutrient channels during tissue culture. This construct grew from a diameter of 40 mm and thickness of 2.5 mm, to a diameter of 52 mm and a thickness of 4 mm by day 56. Its size was comparable to some of the largest articular layers in the human body.
