Semiquantitative analysis of IP-10, T3δ, and BDV p40 gene expression in brains of mock- and BDV-infected rats. RNA samples (10 μg) from the right brain hemispheres (excluding cerebella) of mock- and BDV-infected rats sacrificed at different times p.i. were subjected to RPA using probes for IP-10 (upper panel), T3δ (middle panel), and BDV p40 (lower panel). The two upper autoradiographs were derived from the same RPA gel; they were exposed for 12 days. The lower autoradiograph was exposed for 5 days. For quantification, the dried RPA gels were exposed to phophorimager plates, and the band intensities were determined using Macbas software. Bars indicate relative RNA contents (arbitrary units) calculated by normalizing the band intensities against the corresponding L32 transcript levels (data not shown). A logarithmic scale was chosen for the presentation of IP-10 and T3δ RNA levels, with cutoff values of 0.35 for IP-10 and 0.13 for T3δ.
