Figure 3. — Changes in the P content in the third metacarpus bone based on the ash content of nursery pigs at day 45 with supplementation of a bacterial 6-phytase using a broken-line analysis. The break point was 600 ± 179 FTU/d of feed of phytase supplementation when the P bone content in the bone based on the ash content was 18.1 ± 0.1%. One slope broken-line model; the equation for P bone content was Y = 18.1 − 0.00122 × zl; if phytase supplementation is ≥ breakpoint, then z; = 0; if phytase supplementation is < breakpoint, then zl = breakpoint − phytase supplementation. Values for phytase activity were based on the analyzed values. P-value for the plateau was <0.001, for the slope was 0.010 and for the breaking point was 0.002. The breakpoint was converted from 600 FTU/d to 948 FTU/kg feed by dividing with the overall average feed intake (0.633 kg/d).
