Dynamic US of the patellar tendon. The patient is placed in a supine position, and transverse images of the patellar tendon are obtained at rest and with full (submaximal) contraction of the quadriceps muscle. Lateral translation of the patellar tendon is assessed in relation to the lateral margin of the trochlea. In this asymptomatic subject, the patellar tendon does not move lateral to the lateral margin of the trochlea.
