Summary of findings: promising strategies and modes of delivery likely to be part of effective intervention for improving children's dairy food and calcium intakes

  • Aim to increase Ca through a discrete behavioural target, i.e. increasing dairy food consumption.

  • Improve availability and accessibility of dairy products.

  • Use taste exposure to influence children's preference for dairy foods.

  • Provide dairy foods where possible.

  • Broaden the scope of intervention beyond the school setting. Deliver techniques across settings including at home, in the community, or in a combined setting.

  • Target technique at the family as a whole, not just children, and engage parents directly.

  • Have frequent contact with participants.

  • Choose behaviour change techniques appropriately according to what behaviour is of interest, who the target is and where the techniques are being delivered.
