In the ‘In gene group’ column, Y indicates that the gene was present in the group of 281 genes that were counted and scored, while N indicates that the gene was not present (see Fig. 7). In the ‘Mito function’ column, M indicates known mitochondrial function, P indicates probable mitochondrial function based on sequence similarities and ? indicates unknown function (also see text). In the ‘Gene exp. Function’ column, G indicates proteins that function in some phase of mitochondrial gene expression, such as mRNA splicing, translation, mRNA degradation or protein complex assembly, while a blank indicates that the gene has no known function in gene expression.
