Proposed experimental approach for MTT in neurodegenerative and neurovascular disorders. Mitochondrial transplant therapy constitutes three key steps:1) isolation of healthy and functional mitochondria from diverse sources, including skeletal muscle, liver, or adipose tissue from donor species; 2) transplantation of healthy donor mitochondria into a host, either through systemic administration, intranasal delivery, or by direct injection into a region of interest in the brain; and 3) incorporation of donor mitochondria and therapeutic benefits of MTT in host target tissues/cells.
