NAFLD heterogeneity in postmenopausal women. Multiple etiological factors contribute to heterogeneity in natural history, histological subtypes, clinical presentation, and response to therapeutic interventions in postmenopausal women. Factors such as hormonal status, age, metabolic health and presence of comorbidities, quality of habitual diet, alcohol consumption patterns, levels of physical activity, genetic factors/ethnicity, and presence of gut dysbiosis through diverse mechanisms often interact dynamically to affect the clinical presentation of NAFLD in this population.
