Recommendation 6.

Management of Respiratory Secretions

Evidence Recommendation
The use of suction to remove the respiratory secretions of patients in the dying process can be burdensome for patients due to irritation from catheters, so the choice of whether to use suction should be determined after evaluating the benefits and harms in terms of the amount of secretions, the patient’s status, and the caregiver’s needs.
