Intrinsic pathway of apoptosis induced by imiquimod (IM). IM induces a disbalance between mitochondrial proapoptotic (blue: bax, bak, bid) and antiapoptotic (yellow: bcl-2, bcl-xL, mcl-1), favouring the translocation of cytochrome c into the cytosol. This leads to the activation of caspases and, ultimately, cell death.
