First derivative X-band anisotropic EPR spectra of (a) [VIV(L1)2] (1); (b) [VIV(L2)2] (2); (c) [VIV(L3)2] (3); and (d) [VIV(L4)2] (4). All the spectra were recorded in CH2Cl2 at 120 K with an approximate vanadium concentration of 8 × 10–4 M. With the dotted lines, the MI = −7/2, 7/2 resonances of the species 1a–4a and 1b–2b are indicated, while with the asterisk, the isotropic absorption due to the undissolved solid complex 3 is shown. The low- and high-field regions of the spectrum of 1 are amplified by 20 and 25 times, respectively, at the top of the figure.
