In this case, as the independent variable is categorical, path a (role-role conflict) reflects the difference between volunteers and paid staff on role conflict. This coefficient is negative due to the order of variables; PROCESS is comparing volunteers vs. paid staff, and the latter reports more role conflict, as it is presented in Table 1.
