Expression of ς22 in the nonmucoid, motile isolate PAO1 results in the inhibition of flagellum expression. Whole-cell extracts of PAO1-derived cells were analyzed on a Western blot probed with anti-flagellum B antibodies. Lane 1, a sample of purified flagella B (250 ng). Lanes 2 through 4 contain whole-cell extracts derived from strains WFPA14 (algD::xylE aacC1), WFPA14/pMMB503EH (vector), and WFPA14/pWG21 (algT), respectively.
