Effects of POG treatment of serum-starved osteoblasts on differential gene expression show upregulation of genes correlated with osteoblast viability and activity, and predicted downregulation of osteoclast differentiation and function. POG treatment significantly (FDR < 0.05) reduced Rankl (THFSF11) and IL6 mRNA expression and upregulated the expression of DLX5, Runx2 and Sp7/osterix, indicating the potential mechanisms by which POG increases osteoblastogensis and reduces osteoclastogenesis. Genes/functions in red/pink depict significant upregulation, while genes in green/light green depict significant downregulation.
