Amy Locke, MD, FAAFP, Chief Wellness Officer and Professor of Family and Preventive Medicine, University of Utah, and Chair, Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine & Health
This is an exciting, pivotal time in medicine and healthcare with tremendous opportunity for integrative medicine and health. As researchers, clinicians and educators dedicated to integrative approaches and passionate about the benefits for patients, we are seeing advances in several critical areas, including the whole health paradigm and recognition of the social determinants of health, increasingly consistent inclusion of non-pharmacologic approaches, and consideration for the well-being of healthcare workers. A laser focus on the research that supports these areas will help to ensure continued momentum.
For this reason, the official journal of the Academic Consortium for Medicine & Health has adopted a new name, a simple but important adjustment to give prominence to integrative approaches research and to attract attention and support for the field worldwide. Global Advances in Integrative Medicine & Health is not only our new name for the journal, but our pledge to the future for whole health and well-being and to your role in shaping it.
The strong commitment of this journal began in 2012 and is today aligned with the 2022-2025 strategic plan of the Academic Consortium to foster whole systems thinking and approaches and serve as your most valuable and reliable resource for knowledge, new ideas and opportunities in this fast-growing field.
In the next three years, as we add dimension to our strategic objectives, you will see programs and initiatives that drive tangible change in models of healthcare. Think of the Academic Consortium as your portal to an international network of like-minded healthcare professionals, a welcoming environment where you can connect and collaborate through our international Congress and bi-annual Symposium, our special interest groups on acupuncture, nature and health, culinary medicine, expressive therapies, integrative nursing, health coaching, mindfulness, yoga, and more.
While the Academic Consortium is your integrative medicine and health network, the journal is your global platform for sharing experience and knowledge in this field and giving evidence-based integrative approaches a track to implementation in clinical practice.
There is so very much we can learn from one another, drawing from our diversity, special skills and particular interests in integrative health. Decide to be a part of this effort.
Help advance the movement toward whole health in mainstream medicine by submitting your original research, abstract, clinical trial, systematic review, meta-analysis, viewpoint, narrative essay, case study, column, or letter to the editor to Global Advances in Integrative Medicine and Health.
