The fatal/severe patients have been described in reference 6, and were just added for comparison and not included in the statistical analyses. n.k.: not known.

Parametric quantitative variables are presented as means of standard deviation (SD), and nonparametric quantitative variables are presented as median and interquartile ranges (IQR; 25th and 75th percentiles).

Categorical data were analyzed using a chi-square test. Continuous parametric data were analyzed using analysis of variance. Continuous non-parametric data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis H test.
