NADPH oxidase inhibitors mitigated EGF-mediated MMP-2/9 activation and increased MMP-2/9 mRNA levels in Caco-2 cells. Caco-2 cells were pre-incubated with or without 10 μM ECG, 30 μM EGCG, 1 μM apocynin, 1 μM Vas or 1 μM DPI for 30 min and then with or without EGF (10 ng/ml) for subsequent 6 h. A- MMP-2, B- MMP-9 mRNA levels were measured by qPCR and referred to actin mRNA levels as housekeeping gene. C- MMP-2 and MMP-9 activity was measured by zymography in the cell culture medium.
