Examples of figurative and abstract style of representation. Leonardo da Vinci, Last Supper (1495–1498) and a piece of Warlpiri art (Australia). Both represent people sitting together, but they do so in radically different ways. The first uses figures (humans) that could be recognised potentially by any observer, whereas the second uses stylised shapes that are far less likely to be recognised as persons by observers not belonging to the Warlpiri community.
