Diagram of the metabolism of vitamin B12 and its two active forms. Methylcobolamine is a cofactor of methionine synthetase (MTR) and adenosylcobolamine is a cofactor of methylmalonyl coenzyme A mutase (MMCoAM). MTR is responsible for the conversion of homocysteine and 5-methyltetrahydrofolate to methionine and tetrahydrofolate. MMCoAM is responsible for the conversion of methylmalonyl CoA to Succinyl CoA
