Table 8.

Summary of blind passages. To test low residual virus in supernatants from treated specimens, these were used as inocula to set up repeated rounds of incubation. This ‘blind supernatant passage’ as a standard method to amplify and reveal low traces of infectious virus is repeated in three successive rounds indicated as p1 to p3 for each buffer. Red boxes are used to indicate a strong virus-typical CPE. Yellow boxes indicate a weak CPE. Green boxes indicate the complete absence of CPE. “-” indicates that no experiment was performed for the respective condition.
