Eligibility criteria

Population	(prospective) implant-wearers or their significant others (as long as thematic focus laid on impact of implant-related aspects on its wearers)	patients with specific comorbidities or underlying diseases, e.g., Usher’s syndrome
Intervention	Cochlear implants; glaucoma drainage or filtration implants (e.g., Ahmed valve implant, iStent); passive cardiovascular implants (valve replacement, coronary stent)	hearing loss, glaucoma or cardiovascular disease without any implant reference
Outcome	fundamental ethical values in relation to one of the three implant types; implant-related societal/cultural aspects (e.g., cultural identity, discrimination experiences, sense of connectedness or belonging to a certain social or cultural group, norms, expectations, acculturation, social acceptance, participation); psychosocial aspects (e.g., self-concept, self-confidence, personal identity, communication, social interaction, social relationships, personality, psychosocial functioning, psychological (not pathological), social well-being, lifestyle, self-esteem, employment, education, life planning	quality of life (QoL) outcomes, quantified with health-related or generic questionnaires
