Serious infection A serious adverse event [2] of infectious nature, as defined by the authors
Total number of infected patients Total number of infected patients in the study as stated by the authors (a patient is counted only once even though she/he could have had multiple infections) including both serious and non-serious infections
Total number of seriously infected patients Total number of patients in the study that experienced an infection considered serious, as stated by the authors (a patient is counted only once even though she/he could have had multiple serious infections)
Total number of infectious events Total number of infectious events in the study as stated by the authors (a patient can be counted multiple times as she/he can experience multiple events), including both serious and non-serious infections
Total number of serious infectious events Total number of serious infectious events in the study as stated by the authors (each event a patient experiences is counted, even if the patient experiences multiple serious events)
Incidence rate The number of infected patients per 100 patient-years of follow-up
Event rate The number of infectious events per 100 patient-years of follow-up
