Table 2.

| Praise score | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0.5 | 1 | 1.5 | 2 | 2.5 | 3 | |
| Modest praise | |||||||
| Low SES | 26 | 8 | 50 | 5 | 15 | 0 | 2 |
| High SES | 23 | 5 | 51 | 4 | 18 | 3 | 2 |
| Inflated praise | |||||||
| Low SES | 72 | 15 | 17 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
| High SES | 83 | 10 | 13 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Total praise | |||||||
| Low SES | 16 | 0 | 55 | 5 | 25 | 3 | 2 |
| High SES | 16 | 2 | 50 | 7 | 26 | 3 | 2 |
There were two low-SES and two high-SES vignettes. Thus, the praise score reflects the average praise frequency across the two vignettes per SES category (e.g., an inflated praise score of 2 for low SES means that the participant provided an average of two instances of inflated praise per low-SES vignette).
