Statistical comparisons between WT and mutant embryos. evx1;evx2 = evx1i232/i232;evx2sa140/sa140 double mutant embryos and hmx2;hmx3a = hmx2;hmx3aSU44/SU44 deletion mutants. First column indicates the figure panel that contains the values plot for the comparison. N.S. = data not shown. Second column states the age (h) and genotypes being compared. Numbers within parentheses indicate mean numbers of cells ± standard error of the mean (S.E.M.). In all cases, these values are the mean of at least 3 embryos and in all cases except the fourth data row of the table, cells were counted in all dorsal-ventral spinal cord rows. Column three lists the gene that the cell counts, and statistical comparison refer to. Asterisks indicate experiments performed with Dextran Sulfate (see Methods). The fourth column indicates the difference between the two mean values for the embryos being compared. All values are rounded to the nearest whole number. ↑ = increase, ↓ = decrease. Last column shows the P-value for the comparison, rounded to three decimal places. Statistically significant (P < 0.05) values are indicated in bold. Statistical test used is indicated by superscript symbol: Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test (^), or type 2 Student’s t-test (+). For a discussion of why particular tests were used, see Methods.
