An original urea agar medium was evaluated in vitro. A, The absorbance at 620 nm of the urea agar medium was changed in addition to the urease solution in a concentration‐dependent manner. Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus mirabilis and Escherichia coli were used as positive and negative controls, respectively. The pH on each agar plate was measured to confirm that urease‐producing bacteria increase the pH on agar surfaces in the presence of urea.
