Detection by PCR of AdV serotype 11 serially diluted in urine. AdV serotype 11 was propagated and quantified in A549 cells (see Materials and Methods). Serial 100- and 10-fold dilutions of this virus were made in urine from a healthy volunteer (AdV negative by culture and PCR). DNA from each dilution was column purified and then amplified by PCR. Controls for amplification were water (NEG) and 102 copies of AdV serotype 2 purified DNA (POS). (A) CCD-enhanced photography of an ethidium bromide-stained gel.
