Interconnection between AKI and heart function impairment. AKI triggers cardiac dysfunction through various pathophysiological mechanisms, including volume overload, electrolyte and acid–base imbalances, accumulation of uremic toxins, enhanced immune response and activation of sympathetic nervous system and RAAS.
