Commonly cited reasons precluding CPR & AED initiation. List of commonly cited reasons that prevent individuals from initiating CPR and using an AED. The most frequently reported reasons include general fear, inability to recognize cardiac arrest, fear of causing harm, and not knowing how to perform CPR. To improve CPR and AED use, addressing these barriers can be aided by increasing public awareness and education about CPR and AED use, as well as providing hands‐on training opportunities to build confidence in performing CPR and using an AED.
