Substance permeability depends on the thickness of the vascular endothelial glycocalyx. The endothelial glycocalyx is a gel‐like structure that covers the lumen of the blood vessels. The presence of the endothelial glycocalyx affects the permeability of substances. Experiments have shown that the permeability of substances differs depending on the organ and is inversely proportional to the thickness of the vascular endothelial glycocalyx.
