Enrichment and gestational age dependence of tissue-specific signatures in amniotic fluid. Analysis of all quantifiable proteins in amniotic fluid identified enrichment of liver, placenta, esophagus, cervix, gallbladder, and lung signatures (a) based on the Human Protein Atlas dataset17. Tissue enrichment analysis was performed separately for orthologs increasing or decreasing in both species. For each enriched tissue, we summarized expression of all proteins over-represented in that tissue using a Z-score normalized to abundance at the earliest gestational age. The tissue-specific trajectories over gestational age are shown for upregulated (b) and downregulated (c) proteins separately for rhesus samples (left) and human samples (right).
